Port Security

Maritime Security Solutions Ltd believe that whatever Port Security systems are in place, they are worthless unless the man on the ground responds correctly. Similarly, the most elaborate security plan is useless if it is not practical and workable.

Our consultants have years of experience protecting ports in high-risk areas where cost has been a major consideration.

Port Facility Security Plan "Health Check":

AUDIT, REVIEW and AMENDMENT of Port Facility Security Plan:

  • To ensure that the Port Facility meets the required ISPS
standards the PFSO must carry out a review of the PFSP periodically (as advised by the ISPS Code Part B: 16.58-60)
  • UK ports must review their PFSPs at least every 6 months.
  • Additionally an annual internal audit of the PFSP is required (to be carried out by someone independent of the activities being audited, if possible).
What are the possible outcomes of a failure to pass a TRANSEC or EU inspection?
  • TRANSEC apply a 'stepped approach' to compliance. This means that the penalties will increase according to the gravity or frequency of the failure.
  • These penalties could start with a strongly worded letter asking for a response and increase to temporary suspension of operations whilst ratification is carried out.
Potential Problems may arise with:
  • Changes in operations
  • Anomalies with other operational instructions
  • Changing security levels
  • Training
  • Contingency planning
  • Exercises
What can be offered to rectify these problems?
  • An ISPS Code "Health Check"
  • Suitable testing of the facility security arrangements
  • A review of the PFSP as required by TRANSEC and the ISPS Code
  • An independent PFSP audit
  • A full Port and PFSP audit
  • Training to address the shortfalls
On-site Port Security Training:
  • Training on-site at your own port is efficient and cost-effective
  • Several people can be trained at the same time, keeping fees and travelling expenses to a minimum
  • Scenario-based exercises are carried out in familiar surroundings, leading to greater retention of the principles
  • Non-security personnel can be involved, increasing general awareness
  • Mandatory exercises and drills can be incorporated
